Why it is not an excluded item
What the NDIA excludes
Why CareWindow sits outside it
Single purpose device. No app store, browser or consumer apps, and it cannot be repurposed as a general tablet.
Tablets and smart devices, as everyday household items
The monthly fee buys the assistive technology service: software, configuration, trusted caller management, monitoring, support and maintenance. It is not a telecommunications plan. On Complete the connection is embedded, serves the CareWindow only and cannot be shared.
Telephone and internet, as day to day living costs
Answering without dialling or handling a handset, and a locked trusted caller list, address a disability related barrier a mainstream phone does not.
Anything most Australians buy for themselves
Supporting evidence
Not required at this price point. If a plan manager queries the disability link, a short note from an OT or speech pathologist will settle it. Three points is enough:
The barrier, for example difficulty dialling, holding a handset or navigating a touchscreen menu.
How CareWindow addresses it.
The plan goal it supports.
What our invoices show
CareWindow Complete: assistive communication device and 12 month assistive technology service, covering configuration, trusted caller management, remote monitoring, support and maintenance. Device connectivity is embedded and serves the device only.
